About Barb
In 1998, two very serendipitous events happened for me: first, the director of midwifery at our local freestanding birth center asked me, during a prenatal visit of my own, if I’d like to have a job as a nurse. Second, I received a postcard in the mail announcing one of the only visits Pam England , author of Birthing From Within and Ancient Map for Modern Birth, would ever make to the Southeast. I answered a resounding YES to both of these events! Thus began my journey to birth work….
Since 1998, I’ve attended over 800 births and performed countless home visits as a nurse and doula. I’ve also mentored immeasurable childbirth preparation classes that were conceived as Birthing From Within and have grown into my own special concoction of all the most helpful tidbits I’ve learned and observed along the way. I also have five children of my own; a myriad of labor and birth experiences – the good and the bad – to go along with that! It’s no surprise that the phrase, “Birth Sherpa,” coined by a friend has stuck after all these years!
I’m married and most of the kiddos are grown and my husband and I have taken over the family farm. We, and occasionally the kids, raise sheep, cattle and chickens and grow multitudes of produce…trying to keep our footprint on the Earth reasonably small and well vested! I love craft beer and bluegrass music and overall am a pretty easy-going gal who’s looking forward to learning more about how I may help guide you down your path to motherhood.
