Ahimsa Jujitsu: Yogic Self Defense Level II Series with Edward Black

February 21, 2017 @ 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm

$70.00

eb-leftRelease your inner peaceful warrior.

“Ahimsa” is a Sanskrit word that means non-harm toward ourselves and others. This can only be achieved when the mind is able to fully control the damaging emotions of Fear and Anger. Fear has a paralyzing effect, and opens us to being physically or emotionally hurt by others. Anger can be an unhealthy stimulant that causes us to lash out and wrecklessly hurt others with our words or actions.

In Ahimsa Jujitsu, we learn to utilize basic yoga principles such as breath control, body positioning, and mental concentration in order to keep our minds quiet in stressful situations. We then practice applying these new skills in very controlled self defense situations. As we learn to eliminate the turbulence in our minds while successfully dealing with physical confrontations, we find that there is a carryover effect in our everyday lives. We’re better able to calm our minds and have more control over anger and fear at work, at school, and in our personal relationships.

Level 2 Ahimsa Jujitsu builds on the foundation provided in Level 1. The class structure is the same, but there are more in-depth applications of Ahimsa Jujitsu philosophy and also more challenging exercises and techniques. While Level 1 is not a strict prerequisite for Level 2, most students will benefit from the progression. If a student would like to start at Level 2, they need to be prepared to spend some time with the instructors after the first class to learn some of the techniques covered in Level 1.

Because of the close physical contact in the jujitsu portion of the class, some attendees may feel more comfortable taking the class with a training partner they know. While all are welcome, please be aware that if you intend to sign up as an individual there is partner work where you may be paired with someone you do not know, male or female. If anyone is ever uncomfortable practicing the techniques with other individuals, the instructor will always have alternative methods available.

$70 per student

About Edward:

Edward has studied the martial arts for over 40 years and has earned multiple black belts in karate and jujitsu. He has trained with both Royce and Rener Gracie, whose family created Brazilian Jujitsu in the early 1900’s. Edward has had a home-based yoga practice for over 10 years, and completed his 200-hour Glowing Body Teacher Training under Cindy Dollar in May 2016. The teacher training inspired him to create a yoga-martial arts fusion he has named “Ahimsa Jujitsu.” This completely unique approach incorporates physical and philosophical elements of yoga such as asana (poses), pranayama (breath control), and ahimsa (non-harm, to self and others) into an effective but non-violent self-defense system.

Edward holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee, and has written a book on martial arts philosophy, “Wisdom of the Mystic Mountain Warrior.”
