Mat Time with Kim Lomonaco & Philip Clift

For dedicated students or yoga teachers eager to deepen their practice while working on intermediate to advanced postures, but are not sure where to begin. This extended group practice provides a community of yoga enthusiasts to inspire you and urge you onward into more challenging postures.
During the Fall, Mat Time will be expanded with TWO expert teachers. Kim Lomonaco brings an enthusiasm for upbeat, conscientious practice based on 10 years of practice and study in several methods. Philip Clift, one of Knoxville’s foremost yoga teachers, will share his expertise from over 20 years of bodywork and yoga practice, which is heavily inspired by the Ashtanga vinyasa method. Both teachers value consistent practice over a long period of time with the aim of transformation of body, mind and spirit.
Kim and Philip will provide instruction on optimizing alignment and breath in order to access or go further in poses presented; preparations for deeper poses will also be provided. Skilled hands-on assistance will be available throughout class. Adequate time will be taken to “try out” new or difficult poses. Sharing your own unique experience with postures will be encouraged. Pranayama and seated meditation will be built into the end of practice following a long savasana.
A high level of self-awareness on the part of the student is required, as not all poses will be appropriate for all participants. It is strongly recommended that participants be able to get into handstand at a wall independently and be able to push into and sustain urdhva dhanurasana (upward bow) for five breaths. Participants may benefit from owning a copy of Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar as a resource for practice.
