Inversions!

Saturday, October 11, 2014, 9:00am-12:00pm

Finally! Inversions made accessible. Use props and precise alignment to discover why headstands and shoulderstands are called the King and Queen of poses.  Gain a new royal perspective whether inversions make you say “Let them eat cake” or make you run for the hills.

Bending backward can be quite therapeutic for our modern desk bodies. But many people don’t realize spinal integrity can be lost whether you are too flexible or inflexible.  Approach these poses from a place of balanced mobility and stability throughout the spine and feel the benefits of backbends from “it just feels great” to the effects on the organic systems of the body.

Sunday, October 12, 2014, 9:30am-11:30am

Bandhas (locks) require subtle awareness and can increase strength despite perceived weakness.  Let an expert guide your exploration of these hubs of motion. In the Iyengar method, understanding bandhas relates directly to specific pose sequencing as well as a precise comprehension of movement origins within each pose. Through this direct experience in the body,  the mysterious “locks” (bhandas) are demystified.

Experience why people say a good restorative class can be as rejuvenating as a deep sleep. By placing the body in certain postures using bolsters, blankets and other props without engaging muscular effort, restorative yoga can help you relax, soothe frayed nerves and quiet the sympathetic nervous system.  Simon’s keen eye and deep understanding will help you feel how beneficial yoga postures are even when you don’t move a muscle. This class is not to be missed and is appropriate for all levels.$45

simon_side_crowAbout Simon:

Simon has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 25 years. He has been teaching Australian yoga teachers since 1989, when he founded his first yoga center in Melbourne. He went on to create the Yoga Gurukul retreat center in 2005 in the idyllic and beautiful region of northern N.S.W., Australia. In 2011, he opened a yoga center in Australia and now teaches all over Australia and internationally. Having attained one of the highest certifications in the Iyengar Yoga system, Simon makes it a point to travel to India every year to study with his teacher, Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar. In addition to a deep understanding and practice of yoga asana (postures), pranayama, meditation and mantra, Simon has combined his love for chanting with his love for a stratacaster. In 2014, Simon started Samskara Radio, a band that features a glorious mix of psychedelic, art gallery sound with touches of rock/punk and yogic roots throughout. Simon will be visiting the states after teaching in Bali, Indonesia. We are honored to have Simon share his wisdom and knowledge with us.
