Introduction to Thai Yoga Massage

No experience with Thai Yoga Massage required. Perfect for yoga teachers hoping to improve their hands on skills with students.

Introduction to Thai yoga Massage will lay the foundation of full body Thai massage treatment.  We will observe each of the positions: face-up (supine), face-down (prone), side-lying, and seated.  This course explores the nature of Thai Yoga Massage through Thai history, theory and the elements.

We will also observe foundational principles that are beneficial for body mechanics and yoga elements of Thai massage. 

You get to choose either virtual classroom experience or live, in-person participation.

Thai Yoga Massage for the Low Back

One of the main complaints from clients is related to lower back pain. If you suffer from lower back pain, this course is for you! No experience is necessary to learn Thai Yoga Massage and Osetothai techniques that will help you to feel better and heal. 

We will focus on the spine and mainly the lower back area in order to help improve quality of function and structure, in order to increase mobility, restore vitality and bring back ease of movement. This area is an important meeting point of different structures,: musculoskeletal, visceral, nervous, facial and energetic. We will use special dynamic and static techniques coming from Thai massage and Osteopathy principles.

Abdominal Thai Yoga Massage Techniques

A very delicate touch is needed to manipulate the belly to facilitate detoxification during the practice of traditional Thai Massage.  The belly is described as ‘The Center of the Universe’, and by freeing the structures of the belly, we also free the function of our organs and digestive system.  This course highlights the organs, ligaments of the belly, and connective tissue.  This course includes techniques especially helpful for those with digestive disorders, low back conditions, sacroiliac joint pain and shoulder pain.

Thai Massage for Head, Neck & Shoulders

In this course, we will observe the connection of the muscular, fascia and structural parts of the head, neck and shoulders. The cervical spine (neck) is an important path for the nervous system and blood circulation. Tension in this area creates numerous problems in our breathing and digestive systems.

We will discuss a therapeutic approach with a focus on the rib cage, breathing techniques, mobilization of the joints, and cerebral spinal fluid with integration of the spine.

Thai Massage: Using Your Feet

Side-Lying and Herbal Compression

Side-lying techniques may be used for clients who are not comfortable lying on their front due to reasons, such as pregnancy, obesity, sinus pressure, or large breasts. You can utilize this in addition to your classic routine for longer sessions in excess of 90 minutes-2 hour sessions. This is a deeply therapeutic massage technique.

We will study and practice a sequence in the side lying position infused with traditional herbal compression technique.

Myofascial Components of Low Back and Leg Pain

Want to have fun while getting your CEU’s? Spend two days with Pete Whitridge exploring deep tissue structures of the lower body that are at the root of most client pain.

  • Refine your massage skills and gain new confidence
  • Pinpoint problem areas quickly.
  • Devise strategies to eliminate pain.
  • Work collaboratively with your client.

This workshop will offer a multi-disciplinary approach to treating chronic pain, targeting the lower body region – the Foundation. We will explore orthopedic assessments, fascial stretching, and hydrotherapies, as well as myofascial and muscle energy techniques to help identify and eliminate pain and dysfunction. You will have the opportunity to dialogue about your own specific client needs and learn self-care strategies to help clients maintain pain free movement. We will investigate the unique nature of connective tissue and review current findings from the Fascia Research Congress.

You will receive lots of bodywork, learn new ways to handle clients with chronic pain, and reconnect with fellow massage therapists. You will leave this class with new skills and confidence in helping your clients be pain free!

This class is designed to help you:

  • Pinpoint problem areas quickly.
  • Devise strategies to eliminate pain.
  • Work collaboratively with your client.

Pete Whitridge has been a licensed massage therapist since 1988. He is a founder and Past President of the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education (AFMTE) and has dedicated his career to helping establish high standards in massage therapy education. He teaches throughout the US and is a frequent speaker at FSMTA, AMTA, and FCA meetings and conventions. Pete has served as Chair of the Florida Board of Massage Therapy. He received the FSMTA Charles Canfield Award for dedicated service to the massage profession in 2004. He was inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2016 at the World Massage Festival in Atlantic City.

Thai on the Table

This is an innovative class incorporating Thai yoga for therapists working on the massage table.  Content will include a full body Thai yoga treatment, safe effective stretching techniques, and improved body mechanics for practitioners.  We will also observe foundational principles of yoga elements applied in Thai massage. This course is perfect for the traditionally trained therapist looking to refresh and deepen their work with less strain on your hands and wrists.

  • You do not have to use linens, oils and no one needs to undress.  For sanitation purposes, it is easy to wipe everything down.  
  • The principles and techniques in this course is a combination of Thai (compression & stretching) and Osteopathy principles which allows deeper access in the body without pain or force driven techniques.  I believe this to be one of the finest courses and can easily be done on a mat on the floor, if this is your preference.
